Charmette Young, VaultArt Studio, 2017
After graduating from RISD in June 2017, I worked full-time at VaultArt Studio teaching adult artists with intellectual disabilities through Acheiva. Achieva is a non-profit organization based in southwestern Pennsylvania that supports individuals with disabilities and their families. At VaultArt Studio, in the first half of the day, I taught a lesson in painting, drawing, sculpture, or printmaking. In the second half of the day, artists worked on their own self-motivated projects and I responded through feedback in individual studio visits. Weekly, I led critiques, and, monthly, I mounted exhibitions of their work in a gallery.
