etching on rice paper, found materials
I created three interactive braille pieces: one was itchy, one was sticky, and one was painful to the touch. Making braille uncomfortable to be touched perverts the function of the object because braille is meant to be understood through touch. In each piece, something was behind the braille creating these sensations (itching powder, fishing line...) all unbeknowst to the viewer until interaction.
When interacting with the piece, sounds are created: (the whoosh of the fishing line, scratching of the skin created by the itching powder, or the wet sound of stickiness). These sounds were recorded and played with the series in an ongoing loop.
